We’re defending your Rights Online

In an ever-evolving digital landscape, it has never been more important to protect the rights of Australians of all ages online.

What is the Digital freedom Project

The Digital Freedom Project is a group of Australians concerned about increasing government intervention in the digital space.

The Australian government not only wants to censor what you see online, but also to restrict who can meaningfully participate in the online town square.

We are fighting for your digital rights

The introduction of a social media ban for people under 16 is a violation of young people’s rights to stay connected and access information. Meanwhile, the collection of data and identification documents to verify ages poses a major risk to the security of Australians’ personal information online.

Our rights in the digital space have never been more under threat and that’s why we’ve decided to take action.

OUR CORE AIMS

To protect the rights of Australians online the Digital Freedom Project has three core aims in its advocacy.

Advocate

Advocate for the rights and freedoms of individuals, particularly young people, to access, use and communicate through digital and social media technologies.

PROMOTE

Promote and defend freedom of expression, including the implied constitutional freedom of political communication in Australia, in digital contexts.

SUPPORT

Support, initiate or participate in legal action, policy submissions and public campaigns to protect civil liberties and digital freedoms.

We ask for your date of birth to understand your age and whether you may be affected by the under-16 social media ban. This information helps us demonstrate the real impact of the ban on our members, which will support our Court challenge.

We collect this information to confirm you're an Australian resident and to understand which regions our members come from. This helps us highlight how the legislation impacts young people, especially in rural and regional areas.
