1. Introduction
The Digital Freedom Project (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to protecting Australians’ digital rights and freedoms. We rely on the generosity of supporters to fund our campaigns, research, and advocacy efforts.
This Donation Policy outlines how donations are processed, how we manage donor information, and our commitments to transparency and accountability.
By making a donation through our website or other official fundraising channels, you agree to this Donation Policy.
2. Who we are
The Digital Freedom Project Incorporated is an Australian not-for-profit association operating in accordance with the Associations Incorporation Act NSW 2009 (NSW) and, where applicable, registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

3. Purpose of donations
All donations are used to advance the mission of the Digital Freedom Project, to inform, advocate, and campaign for Australians’ digital freedoms, including protecting privacy, free expression, and access to online platforms.
Funds may be used for:
- public awareness campaigns and communications;
- research, content creation and events;
- administrative and operational costs that enable campaign delivery; and
- legal, digital or marketing tools that support advocacy efforts.
We are committed to ensuring that all donations are used responsibly and effectively in furthering our objectives.
4. Making a donation
Donations can be made via:
- our official website: https://www.digitalfreedomproject.org.au;
- third-party fundraising platforms authorised by the Digital Freedom Project; or
- direct transfer or cheque (by arrangement).
All donations must be made in Australian dollars (AUD) unless otherwise stated.
When making an online donation, you will be asked to provide personal details such as your name, email address and payment information. This data is processed securely and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
5. Receipts and record-keeping
Donors will receive an electronic receipt via email once a donation is successfully processed.
Receipts include:
- the date and amount donated;
- the donor’s name (if provided); and
- a confirmation that the payment was received by The Digital Freedom Project Incorporated.
We maintain records of all donations in compliance with Australian taxation and privacy laws.
6. Refund policy
As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the goodwill and commitment of our supporters. Refunds of donations are generally not provided except where required by law (for example, in cases of mistaken or unauthorised transactions).
If you believe a donation has been made in error, please contact us within 7–14 days of the transaction at info@digitalfreedomproject.org.au, including your full name, contact details, and donation reference number.
We will assess each request on a case-by-case basis and, if approved, refund the amount to the original payment method.
7. Recurring donations
Supporters may choose to make recurring donations.
You can modify or cancel your recurring donation at any time by contacting us at info@digitalfreedomproject.org.au or following the cancellation instructions provided in your confirmation email or donor portal (if applicable).
Recurring donations will continue until cancelled by the donor or by the Digital Freedom Project.
8. Security of payment information
We use secure, reputable third-party payment processors (such as Stripe or PayPal) to handle donations.
The Digital Freedom Project does not store full credit card details or other financial data on its own servers.
All transactions are encrypted and processed in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).
9. Transparency and reporting
We are committed to transparency in the management of funds. Financial reports may be made available through:
- our annual reports or ACNC filings (if registered as a charity); and
- other public disclosures required under Australian law.

10. Tax deductibility
Donations to the Digital Freedom Project Incorporated are not currently tax-deductible. However, all contributions are greatly appreciated and directly support our advocacy work.

We handle all donor information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Your personal information will only be used to process your donation, issue receipts, and communicate with you about our activities if you have opted in.
We do not share or sell donor details to third parties for marketing purposes.
